Guinea launches campaigns for legislative, local elections ahead of May 24 polls

CONAKRY, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya, through a decree read on national television on Tuesday, officially launched the electoral campaigns ahead of the legislative and local elections scheduled for May 24.

According to the decree, the campaign for the legislative elections will begin on April 24 and end on May 21.

Regarding the local elections, the campaign will start on May 4, and will also conclude on May 21 across the entire national territory.

"In accordance with Article 50 of the Electoral Code, no one may, by any means or in any form, campaign outside the periods specified in the first paragraph of this decree," the decree said.

The president said that, during the electoral campaign periods, demonstrations, meetings and gatherings must take place in compliance with the laws and regulations governing political activities.
